front crash prevention systems

The 2016 models are here. If you’re thinking of buying a new set of wheels, you’ll want a car that’s stylish—and safe.

One of the most promising new auto technologies is front crash prevention. This technology automatically applies the brakes if a crash is imminent— no effort on the part of the driver is needed. Evidence shows that the front crash preventions systems help keep drivers safe.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently tested the front crash prevention systems in several 2016 models. They ranked each car as basic, advanced or superior for front crash prevention depending on whether the car offers autobrake and, if so, how effective it is in tests at 12 and 25 miles per hour.

Fourteen new models ended up earning the superior rating while five earned the advanced rating. Find out which ones made the cut—and which didn’t—by reading the source article at iihs.org.
