Nashville rang in 2017 the best way possible– safe and sound.
Erie Insurance, Nashville artists LOCASH and Lyft teamed up to help Nashvillians get home safely with a free (up to $10) Lyft ride home. While the party’s over for 2016, you can still join in on the fun. Watch this video of LOCASH surprising Lyft riders with a singalong to their single, “Ring on Every Finger.”
Who’s that hilarious Lyft driver in the blue sweater, you ask? It’s Alexis Saski–she’s helped more than 1,500 passengers share the ride since she began driving for Lyft, a flexible gig that allows her time to pursue her passion of singing and performing all around Nashville.
This is the time of year when many people are busy making New Year’s resolutions. While it’s certainly a good idea to make yours about self-improvement, it might also be worth considering making one that benefits the ones you love the most.
Just one way to do that is with life insurance to protect your loved ones. It may not be the most exciting resolution you’ve ever made, but it may be the most important. One person who understands that is Kiristen Draughn.
Kiristen is a young woman who says that her mom, M’Linda, is her role model: a strong independent woman who always wants the best for her children. That hasn’t been easy, though. Kiristen’s dad, Kenneth, died in a boating accident when she was just 4. On that fateful day, this young family’s world was turned upside down.
“My two-parent, two-income household was no more,” says Kiristen. “In the blink of an eye, my brothers, sisters and I were fatherless and being raised by a grieving single mother with a modest income.” While M’Linda and Kenneth had talked about getting life insurance, they never followed through. As M’Linda says, “We thought we had a lifetime to do that.”
It didn’t take long for the financial hardship to reach their day-to-day life. They found themselves forced to move to a place with less expensive rent. And Kiristen remembers a lot of hot dog dinners because it was all they could afford some weeks.
Over the years, Kiristen has studied hard and is excited to go to college with the hopes of becoming a doctor. Given that the family has lived paycheck to paycheck, it’s been tough to save for college. “Even though something devastating happened, it’s not going to stop me from achieving my dreams,” says Kiristen, who works after-school jobs to save money.
As she has gotten older and her mom has shared more about the financial struggles they faced, Kiristen now understands that “life insurance would have given my family stability. It not only gives you peace of mind, it provides for your loved ones after you are gone.” M’Linda echoes that sentiment with this advice to other young families: “Don’t wait to get life insurance. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.”
Resolve to give your family peace of mind in 2017 by making sure you have the proper life insurance coverage. Talk to an insurance professional like an Erie Insurance agent to learn more and get a quote.

Now, new research reveals that drivers who only sleep five or six hours in a 24-hour period are twice as likely to crash as drivers who get seven hours of sleep or more. Getting less than five hours leads to even more crashes—in fact, these very tired drivers can be as impaired as drunk drivers.
These findings underscore the importance of getting enough shut-eye before you get behind the wheel for any holiday driving—and every time after. Check out the source article on npr.org to learn more about this report and why sleep matters so much.

If you’re in the market for a new car in the new year, you might want to consider one of the 38 car models that earned the 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Since 1959, the IIHS has been testing which cars are tops when it comes to safety. The TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolade was introduced in 2012 to recognize vehicles that offer an advanced level of safety. Last year, 48 models made the cut.
This year’s lower number of cars making the cut could be due to tougher standards. For the first time, the IIHS evaluated cars’ headlights. This extra criterion was in response to finding out that government standards allow for a huge range of variation in the amount of illumination car headlights emit.

Many start-up businesses launch at home. The amount of insurance coverage that you need for your business is based on several factors, such as:
What type of business are you in?
How much business equipment or inventory do you have at your home office?
Do customers visit your home?
Does your business require you to visit other people’s homes?
How many employees do you have?
Do you store customer or employee personal information—Social Security numbers, credit card or other account data?
A good, customized business policy can help protect you and your endeavor as much as possible. If you have homeowners or renters insurance, you might think you’re covered. However, most homeowners and renters policies only go so far and aren’t designed to cover things like destroyed business inventory or customer injuries.
For example, a wedding photographer may have cameras and equipment that are worth several thousand dollars. If something unexpected happens, homeowners coverage would be limited to $500 to $1,000 for equipment used exclusively for a business. The entrepreneur would definitely want coverage that is available through a business policy.
Liability risks
Homeowners insurance will also not cover your home-based business against liability claims. Here’s why that’s a concern.
Suppose your office is in your basement, and a customer trips, falls and gets hurt. That customer might sue you. If he or she does, you’ll want premises liability coverage since your homeowners policy won’t cover a premises liability claim filed by a business client.
Home-based business owners also are often liable for injuries their clients or their clients’ property sustains away from their home. For example, a real estate agent could be liable for injuries a potential buyer sustains during a home showing. In this scenario, you’ll need business coverage.
Shopping for business insurance
Here are a few more types of coverage and reasons why you’ll want to consider a business insurance:
Professional liability – Businesses that offer professional services or advice should consider purchasing professional liability coverage. Professional liability could provide coverage for negligence claims as well as defense costs of lawsuits.
Business income and extra expenses – This coverage could help cover lost income if your business closes due to a fire or loss that your policy covers. Extra expenses may be available if you need to rent equipment or space temporarily due to a covered loss.
Data breach -You could purchase this coverageto provide your business with crisis resolution services after a data breach.
Product liability coverage – It can help pay for damages and legal defense fees if a customer names you in a lawsuit after being injured by a product you produced.
Electronic data coverage – It can help you recover from a loss due to a computer virus that corrupts your computer system.
Talk to a professional
Get in touch with a licensed insurance professional or a local ERIE agent who is familiar with your business and can help you decide how much coverage you need for your business. When purchasing insurance, the price is one consideration, but you’ll also want to pick a reputable insurer that is in good financial condition and is known for providing quality customer service.
