This week is National Dog Bite Prevention Week.
Every dog owner has a duty to be a responsible owner. This is especially true when it comes to kids and dogs: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that between 2003 and 2012, dog bites were the 11th leading cause of nonfatal injury to children ages 1 to 4; 9th for ages 5 to 9; and 10th for ages 10 to 14. In 2013 alone, 26,935 reconstructive procedures were performed to repair injuries caused by dog bites. Dog bites are also a leading cause of homeowners liability insurance claims.
Fortunately, there are ways for people of all ages to prevent and avoid dog bites. Check out the tips in our previous article. Then watch the video above to learn how to interact with dogs in a way that will help avoid dog bites.
