Enjoy family friendly activities in Richmond, Va.
What’s going on: Shamrock on the Block, an outdoor event featuring live music, Irish food, vendors and a kids’ zone.
Date: Saturday, March 15
Highlights: A new venue promises even more space and an expanded kids’ zone featuring bounce houses, face-painting, jugglers and even a pet-kissing booth.
Watch the water go green in Indianapolis, Ind.
What’s going on: A special canal-dying event, a parade and an annual run/walk event.
Dates: Friday, March 14 through Monday, March 17
Highlights: The big event occurs when the town dyes the local water canal green on Friday at 5 p.m.
Enjoy a taste of Dublin in Columbus, Ohio
What’s going on: A traditional Irish dinner, family crafts, a mile-long community parade and local walk/run races.
Dates: Now through Monday, March 17
Highlights: Two St. Patrick’s Day parades. Don’t miss the one in Dublin—with a name like that, you can be sure they’ll do it right.
Dress up your dog in Nashville, Tenn.
What’s going on: A brew fest, live music, 5K race, pub crawl and more.
Date: Saturday, March 15 through Monday, March 17
Highlight: Animal lovers will be in their element during the St. Puppy’s Day Festival on Saturday. You can dress up your four-legged friend—or just watch the puppy parade at noon.
Watch a massive Irish parade in Milwaukee, Wis.
What’s going on: A massive parade, live music, a corned beef eating contest and more.
Date: Saturday, March 15 through Monday, March 17
Highlight: The 48th Annual St. Patrick’s Parade in downtown Milwaukee is considered the largest parade in Wisconsin. That’s no wonder when you consider that it features eight Irish dance schools along with numerous drill teams, marching bands and more.
St. Patrick’s Day is definitely time for some carefree fun. That said, remember to drink responsibly and seriously consider appointing a designated driver.
