Summer break is fast approaching. As a parent, you don’t want your kids to zone out in front of the TV all day. So have you considered how to help your kids have a fun–and even productive–summer if they’re too young for a summer job?

Kids with a penchant for art
Cheekwood, a nationally renowned botanical garden and art museum, offers a summer camp for budding artists ages 1 to 18. Kids participate in age-appropriate classes that include everything from drawing to folk art to painting. They’ll also go on gallery visits, garden scavenger hunts, nature hikes and more.
Kids who love the Great Outdoors
If your child loves getting his or her hands dirty, you might consider the Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary. This protected green space just outside of the city offers a variety of age-appropriate camps for kids ages 5 to 11. Budding naturalists will have the chance to hike, build forts, meet live animals and learn about the environment in a natural setting.
Kids with scientific minds
Is your child a science and math whiz? If so, the ScienceQuest Camp at Adventure Science Center will probably be their pick among Nashville summer camps. The camp teaches kids in grades K-9 about science, technology, engineering and math in fun ways. Just a few of the classes include a Abracadabra!, a class that teaches kids about chemistry through magic tricks, and Super Hero Science, a class that helps kids learn about the body and genetics through their favorite superheroes.
Kids with a dramatic flair
Budding actors and actresses can hone their talents at the Act Too Players School of Music and Theatre. The organization offers weeklong as well as summer long intensives for kids 3 to 18. Both options give kids the opportunity to rehearse with top-notch directors and technical staff.
Kids with an entrepreneurial streak
If you have a little businessman or woman on your hands, consider enrolling him or her in Ms. Biz Youth Entrepreneur camp. Kids in grades 2 to 10 can learn how to set up their own Etsy store, start a business around a cause they care about, create a logo with stamps and more.
Kids looking to hone their athletic skills
There are lots of options for sporty kids in and around Nashville. Just a few include Club West Volleyball camps and clinics, David Deaton Karate and Kickboxing’s summer camp and the many different soccer camps offered by Lipscomb University.
There’s also Get Out And Learn! (G.O.A.L!), a free, on-ice youth hockey program hosted by the Nashville Predators. Full hockey equipment, including skate rentals, are also provided free of charge. Online sign-ups start on May 6 at 9 a.m., and space is limited.
