Video: What We Learned from Hurricane Katrina

August 29 marks the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. This disaster displaced hundreds of thousands of Americans along the Gulf Coast and caused more than $100 billion in damage.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), the nation's premier not-for-profit organization dedicated exclusively to fighting insurance fraud and crime, is remembering Hurricane Katrina with a five-part video series. It includes first-hand recollections of NICB employees and law enforcement personnel as they reflect on their roles in the aftermath of America's costliest natural disaster.

One of the team's biggest challenges was identifying and cataloging the 300,000 damaged vehicles left in the storm's wake. Their work highlights the importance of VINCheck, a free service from the NICB that helps consumers discover if a vehicle for sale was once damaged from flood waters.

Check out the first video in the series to learn more about Mother Nature's destructive side-- and the good that can happen when people work together.
