Video: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. During this time, the country pays tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

One of the key ways in which Hispanics make their mark is by becoming small business owners. Research shows that from 1990 to 2012, the number of Hispanic entrepreneurs in America more than tripled by going from 577,000 to more than two million. This surge far outstripped population growth among the working-age Hispanic American population. It also dwarfed the growth in the number of self-employed non-Hispanics during that period, which grew by just 14.0 percent—roughly one eighteenth as fast as the Hispanic rate.

ERIE supports Hispanic entrepreneurs

ERIE supports Hispanic entrepreneurs by appointing a diverse agency force. Just one example is Roberto Vasquez-Vasquez, owner of Seguros R. Vasquez in Wheaton, Maryland.

Roberto came to the United States from Colombia in 1975 with little money, but he had a big dream to make it in America.

Today, he’s an Erie Insurance Agent who runs a highly successful agency with his daughter, Paola. Learn more about his inspiring story and the secret to his success by watching the video above.
